our lights
The design and development of this surface respond to the task of exploring possibilities for innovation in designs for craftsmanship or from a specific trade. Through experimentation with materials in collaboration with an artisan, the goal is to create scenarios that allow the inclusion of these developments in coatings for architecture, interior or exterior spaces. Exploring the domestic, the private, the social, the public, the exterior, and the details.
Starting with conceptual research on what it means to be Latin American, I defined mood boards and a concept to work on. Along the way, I met Javier García, a horizontal loom weaver for over 40 years, and he guided me and helped materialize the project.

The final piece consists of two modules measuring 2.40m x 1.20m each, suspended from a wooden rail. The first module is warped with black nylon thread, and the weft is woven with copper thread and figures in hand-spun cotton thread. The second module is also warped with black nylon thread, and its weft is constructed from irregular figures of hand-spun cotton thread.
All the cotton was dyed during the design process. The dialogue between the first module, which seeks to convey the concept of light, and the second, representing shadows, is what achieves the conceptualized atmosphere.
