broken needles of 2020
A broken needle.
Is it my force upon the needle or the force of the needle upon me?
It's "a communicative act that allows materiality to express itself through
the voices and bodies of those who possess it" (Pérez-Bustos, et al. 2019).
It's a negotiation with the needle, with the materials, with what is. It's seeing,
here in fragments, the "histories of artifacts" (Hallam & Ingold 2016)
and how I can construct them in parallel with my own story.
It's understanding how, while the needle "disciplines my body and controls my mind"
(Pérez-Bustos_Márquez-Gutierrez. 2015),
I also discipline it.
And together, we sew.
